Made Familiar

This mathematics Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E.) workbook by Made Familiar Publishers is designed to help students familiarize themselves with K.C.S.E. Mathematics questions – both Paper 1 and Paper 2. The workbook covers past Mathematics questions that have been tested from 1995 to date.

This workbook covers the Alternative ‘A’ syllabus. The questions have been arranged in topics and in their respective forms in which they are taught. Some topics are introduced in one form and wound up in another. The workbook has arranged the questions in these topics as they are taught, and thus appear twice. For example – STATISTICS I (Form 2);

STATISTICS II (Form 4).

The questions in this workbook are in their original form, that is, as they appeared in the K.C.S.E. paper. Beneath every question, the following have been clearly indicated:

  • Marks carried by the question,
  • Year tested,
  • Paper tested in, and
  • Number in the paper.

This information will help the students identify topics that are frequently tested and the various ways in which concepts in these topics are tested. Questions that require application of mathematical concepts with general knowledge could not be classified under any topic and have been grouped under ‘mixed concepts’.

Solutions to the questions have been presented at the back of this workbook, and have been calculated to 4 significant figures, unless the question states otherwise.

Once a topic is taught and completed in class, the student should work on all questions from that topic in this book. This helps the student understand fully the concepts learnt. By attempting all questions, from a topic that has just been learnt, the student improves his/her retention of skills and procedures.

Past K.C.S.E. questions play an important role in familiarizing a student with National Examinations. For topics frequently tested, the number of ways in which concepts can be tested is limited, and so similar ideas recur. Mathematics is a practical subject which requires a lot of practise. The concepts should be clearly and logically organized for easy understanding.

Passing Mathematics is easy! Just be attentive in class, do your homework consistently, use a revision book (like KCSE Made Familiar) after every topic learnt, have a positive attitude and believe in yourself!!!!!!!
